Career Coaching

Career Coaching can

  • advise

  • support

  • encourage

  • provide resources

  • help you practice

Coaching can help you through the career development process. A career coach can provide advise, support, encouragement, accountability, resources and help you practice to get ready for interviews or salary negotiations.

Working with a career coach you can uncover different opportunities, work on the challenges or barriers you might experience (lack of clarity, fear of change, unrealistic expectations, lack of action or resources), discover your values, interests, personality and skills, and create a plan to pursue your career goals.

Career coaching can facilitate change:

  • Internal: attitudes, beliefs, motivations, mindsets, wellbeing

  • Behavioral: positive behavior frequency and competency, goal attainment, work attitudes

    and also have a

  • Professional impact in your productivity, engagement, skills’ development, relationship building, advocacy, leadership, performance

Working with a career coach is forming a partnership. Coaching is co-creating a future, one that is different that what would happen is you have no direction, no creativity, no commitment.

Most people do not fall into their perfect job on their first job search, it takes time to find a job, to find a career. It takes ups and downs, skill development, confidence, dedication and others who help you along the way. What matters most if that you make progress and sometimes that means that you need help.

The job search is hard because it requires you:

  • to let go of your fear and be confident

  • to start asking for what your really want

  • to master the way you communicate your value

  • to show up and present your very best

  • to get comfortable being uncomfortable and sometimes rejected

  • to keep trusting and be resilient

  • to stay focused and not give up

The most common challenges that clients face are: lack clarity, fear of change and lack of action.

Some clients are not sure what they want to do next or what they are good at or enjoy. Lack of clarity makes a job search challenging but career coaches can help clients engage in career exploration such as reflecting on interests, values, strengths and researching what kinds of contributions they would like to make in the world.

Other clients are afraid of leaving their current situation, to take risk or face the unknown. This prevents them from pursuing new opportunities, learning, or participating in new projects. Working with a coach can help individuals overcome their fears, develop a positive mindset, and manage change in small steps.

Lack of action is a barrier to find new employment, it causes individuals to miss opportunities or waste time. A job search requires action such as researching, networking, sending applications, preparing for an interview.

Career coaches provide the resources and advise to bring clarity, the preparation to build confidence and the accountability to make progress. They can help you identify the obstacles you are facing, minimize those barriers and develop a plan with the positive outcomes you need to move forward. They will help you take action, follow a schedule, track your progress, and take a moment to celebrate your accomplishments.

Working with a career coach will give you the encouragement to stay with the process. Having a supportive coach will increase your resilience when you feel like quitting.
