Job Search
Job Search - stay organized
Simple ways to get and stay organized during your job search…
- Mindset: positive, winning, open to growth
- Confidence: start with affirmations, build and maintain your confidence. Write down these statements and place them where you can see them daily: - I am CAPABLE. I am RESILIENT. I am a LEARNER. I am a HELPER.
- Organization: create your workspace: a distraction free-environment (a desk, a room, the local library)
- Create a schedule (job search hours) and routine to follow, especially if you are not working. Lot of free time leads to distractions. - Block time, there are days for: soul searching, networking, updating your resume and LinkedIn, practicing interviewing.
- Set your career goals and deadlines: - “In 5 months, I want to land a job working with adults learning technology” - Think backwards: what do I have to do to get there? - “In 3 months, I will get an interview” - “In a month, I will have my marketing materials ready” - “In two weeks, I will clarity about what I want”
- Create a Target list of industries, organizations, roles (titles and levels) - No more than three industries, each is different and requires research - Decide if you want to work for large. medium, or small companies. - Be clear about what kinds of roles interest you. - Focusing on targets makes the search more effective. - Keep track.
- Network: use the power of the referral, it’s easier to get hired if you’ve been referred. Find, invite, engage with people.
- Stay current, read articles/blogs related to the field of your interest. Read news/social media about the companies you have targeted.
- Track and celebrate your progress, you want to be excited!
